ABOUT
Hi, I’m Joel White. I’m a Business English Trainer specialising in working with German speakers online and in Berlin.
Originally from the UK, I began my career as a social worker before moving to Berlin in 2014. Since then, I’ve built on that foundation by adding new skills and qualifications in teaching, law, mediation, and conflict coaching.

Across all of my work, a few themes remain constant: clear communication, empowerment, conflict resolution, problem-solving, and personal growth. My goal is to support people in finding their voice, in being heard, overcoming challenges, and creating positive change.

When I’m not working, I’m the proud parent of a bilingual seven-year-old, who reminds me daily how fun learning can be. I have a deep appreciation for languages and dedicate my free time to hiking, climbing, and exploring psychology, history, and culture, as part of my continued pursuit of personal and professional development.

My Offer

I specialise in providing tailored English Language Training and Consultancy services to German speaking Professionals and Businesses to help them to communicate confidently, effectively and naturally in English. ​​​​
My training helps students to overcome their Blockade, and to stop feeling unsicher when speaking English by developing their foundational knowledge of and confidence in using the English language, whilst also incorporating the relevant and industry specific technical language that they are able to immediately incorporate into their professional lives, helping them to develop a natural fluidity to their English, to avoid translating in their heads and to find a good balance between sounding natural and sounding professional. ​​

How we can work together
I'm always glad to meet potential new students, and currently have capacity to take on new students both online and in person in the Berlin area from 1-1 training up to larger groups.
1: Initial Contact and Development of Learning Strategy
Whether the request is for training for an individual student, a group or even a whole company the very first step is to simply get in contact with me with a brief introduction and a bit of information about how I can help you and then we can arrange an initial non-binding telephone or Teams call. I can then start to assess your specific language needs and goals with a focus on general language development as well as industry specific language and role specific functional skills. This then forms part of the develop a learning strategy setting out how training would meet these needs.​
2: Training provided
Tailored training is planned and delivered according to the learning goals, needs, style and timetable of the participants. Training sessions are structured to be as ‘real life’ as possible, focussing on the active use and development of their English skills through active conversation and simulated real world exercises. ​
3: All additional support given
Holistic language needs are met in the form of access to relevant materials and resources such as flashcard decks, exercises, learning techniques and the effective use of AI tools to support independent learning and additional services related to translation and proofreading can also be included in the services offered.​The Result: Confident, fluent, and effective communication in English — directly applicable to your personal and professional life.​​
Why work with me?
​Because of my experience - I am CELTA qualified, have over seven years of teaching experience, speak German to a C1 level, and have significant experience in preparing lesson materials at all levels of language ability, from individual 1-1 lessons to large groups, both online and in-person. ​​​

Because of my professional background - With a background in social work, mediation, and coaching, I bring a unique, versatile perspective to my teaching practice that combines methodology from applied linguistics, second language acquisition research, coaching, applied Psychology and the use of AI tools in language learning.
Because I’m cost effective and local – By working directly with me we are able to cut out the costs of a third party training agency, this means I tend to be cheaper, yet earn more, and as I am based in the centre of Berlin I am flexible to your location and time requirements.​​

Online 1-1 Lessons are €32 p/h (excl. VAT).
Online Group Lessons are €45 p/h (excl. VAT).
Presence Lessons within Berlin are €60 p/h (excl. VAT).*all prices include preparation time and materials.​​
